South Quay incident: Police say package is not a threat
Docklands office workers were evacuated this afternoon as police responded to reports of a suspicious package.
The object was found in Harbour Exchange Square in South Quay at around 1.20pm, and police officers closed roads and evacuated offices in the square as they sent a bomb disposal robot in to assess the package, but they found that it wasn't dangerous.
"Police were called at approximately 13:19hrs to reports of a suspicious package found in Harbour Exchange, Canary Wharf E14," a spokesperson said.
The London Fire Brigade was called at 1.46pm to assist the police and it had two fire engines and 10 firefighters standing by in the square.
However, police determined that the package wasn't a threat at about 2.50pm, and have since stood down.
