Hong Kong Horse Racing Tips: Gibson hoping Purton can Power him to first Victory
TRAINER Richard Gibson would not have been a happy man on Sunday evening!
Sending out 19 runners from his stable in the first week of racing in Hong Kong – many of them strongly fancied – and failing to get a winner would have weighed heavily on his mind.
Still ‘Lady Luck’ has a quick way of changing and suddenly smiling, so Gibson will be hoping to celebrate his birthday in style at Happy Valley this afternoon as he goes for his first win.
His best chance of success looks to be improving four-year-old VICTORY POWER in the 1.45pm over six furlongs.
It’s not often that Gibson and jockey Zac Purton team up, but when they do, it’s always a positive pointer.
Victory Power was unable to withstand the late charge of Triumphant Jewel over five furlongs in the first race of the season, but that will have blown away the cobwebs and with the extra furlong and the prime inside stall in his favour, he will be hard to beat.
Don’t discount top-weight Mr Picasso who goes well fresh and looks well-handicapped on his best form. He could be worth a saver.
Gibson and Purton also team up with the progressive and well-drawn RIGHT HONOURABLE in the 2.15pm over the extended mile.
This looks a fiendishly difficult handicap, with at least a handful of contenders having sound claims on form.
However, Right Honourable won over track and trip from just 1lb lower last season, while it’s significant that Purton rode him in a recent encouraging trial and has chosen him in favour of others.
