Claude Puel described as “perfect fit” for Leicester after being appointed Foxes boss

Former Southampton boss Claude Puel has been billed as the perfect fit for new club Leicester by the club’s vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha after being appointed Foxes manager.

Puel has signed a three-year deal at the King Power Stadium and becomes Leicester’s third boss of the calendar year after succeeding Craig Shakespeare, who was sacked last week.

The 56-year-old Frenchman was dismissed by Southampton in June despite guiding the club to an eighth-place Premier League finish and the final of the League Cup, where they lost to Manchester United.

“When we began the process of identifying a new manager, the board quickly established the profile of candidate we needed to take the club forward and Claude Puel was a perfect fit,” said Srivaddhanaprabha.

“Upon meeting Claude, his attention to detail, knowledge of our squad, understanding of our potential and his vision to help us realise it were extremely impressive.”

Ex-Lille, Lyon and Nice tactician Puel will begin his Leicester tenure with a home clash against managerless Everton on Sunday. He said: “The opportunity to help the club build on its remarkable recent achievements is a truly exiting one and I’m looking forward to working towards delivering further lasting success.”
