Support for Theresa May is actually increasing, YouGov poll suggests

She may be facing higher-than-ever levels of political turmoil, but it turns out support for Prime Minister Theresa May is actually rising.

A YouGov poll for The Times has suggested support for May as Prime Minister has risen by a point over the past month, while support for Jeremy Corbyn has fallen down two points.

However, Labour’s lead rose to 43 per cent, while the Conservatives remained at 40 per cent and the Liberal Democrats fell two points to six per cent.

The news came as May remained embroiled in controversy, after two resignations from her cabinet.

Brexit day

Last night it was revealed she was preparing to enshrine the date and time of Britain’s departure from the European Union in law with an amendment to the EU Withdrawal Bill, to “end confusion or concern”.

The so-called “exit day” will now fall at 11pm on 29 March 2019, the government said – an hour earlier than previously thought.

“Our amendment makes it crystal clear that the UK is leaving the EU at 11pm on 29 March 2019,” said Brexit secretary David Davis.

“We’ve listened to members of the public and Parliament and have made this change to remove any confusion or concern about what ‘exit day’ means.

“This important step demonstrates our pragmatic approach to this vital piece of legislation. Where MPs can improve the Bill, whatever their party, we will work with them.”
