Londoners warned of May bank holiday disruption as railway upgrades get underway
Londoners have been warned that some rail services face disruption over the May bank holiday weekend as Network Rail carries out improvements and engineering works.
There will be no services to and from Cannon Street from Saturday 5 May through to Monday, meaning services will to and from London Victoria, Charing Cross and London Bridge will be affected. Trains from Charing Cross will run via Greewich and Woolwich.
All Great Western Railway routes to and from London Paddington, and also between Slough and Windsor and Eton Central, Maidenhead and Marlow and between Twyford and Henley-on-Thames will also be affected by rail upgrades.
The Heathrow Connect and Express services to the airport from Paddington will run on an amended timetable.
On the Tube, the entire Circle line will be down on Saturday. On the District line there will be no services from Tower Hill to West Ham; on the Hammersmith & City line there will be no services between King’s Cross St Pancras to Barking and on the Metropolitan line from the station to Aldgate.
Ealing Broadway station will also be getting a revamp over the bank holiday weekend as one of the stations that will be improved by the incoming Elizabeth line meaning there will limited services on Saturday 5 and Monday 7 May and no services on Sunday 6 May, when the station will be closed although buses will replace trains.
The London Overground will be shut New Cross Gate to Crystal Palace and West Croydon. Bus replacement services are available.
