Lendy Cowes Week: Wind provides lively conditions for Youth Day | City A.M.
After two days of hard work with little wind, today was a welcome relief for many sailors at Lendy Cowes Week.
Youth Day saw gusts reaching up to 25 knots, meaning plenty of action out on the Solent.
Team Lendy built on some promising results in previous days to finish third in the Sunsail F40 category, sneaking in just one second ahead of Investec.

Tenzing took a third consecutive win, with Red Funnel 1 not far behind in second.
There was a good tussle in the Cruiser Division A, with Pete Newland’s Anticipation keeping pace with its bigger, heavier competitors. Desperado was first to the finishing line, but her time slid to fourth once corrected, with Baby X first, Anticipation second and Exhilarance third.
“It was fairly lively out there today with 28kts over the bow at one point,” said Baby X skipper Charles Esse. “It was really fantastic and everyone loved the excitement after several days of generally light conditions.”
With wind assistance the large yachts of IRC Class 0 saw some rapid racing. LadyMariposa took an early lead with good spinnaker work, but Gladiator recovered to take the win ahead of Girls on Film and Tokoloshe II.
Tomorrow is likely to see a return of more calm conditions on the Solent, as light rain and five to 10 knot winds drift in.
