Trump signs order to allow sanctions for US election meddling
President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to allow sanctions for US election meddling.

The order is intended to protect the United States from interference in elections by setting out a process to punish foreign governments or individuals that attempt to interfere.
Sanctions could include freezing assets and blocking or limiting access to US financial institutions.
National security advisor John Bolton said the US state and treasury departments would decide on which sanctions to impose.
“This is intended to be a very broad effort to prevent foreign manipulation of the political process,” Bolton said, according to USA Today.
He added that US intelligence agencies were concerned about Russia, Iran, North Korea and China's abilities to interfere in elections.
