TfL to open first new Overground stop since 2015
Transport for London (TfL) will open its first new Overground stop since 2015 on Monday.
The 4.5km Barking Riverside extension will connect the area’s new developments to Barking city centre in seven minutes, drastically improving commuting times.
A total of four trains per hour will operate along the line, connecting the riverside to the District and Hammersmith & City services, as well as C2C trains.
Overground services will continue to be run by Arriva Rail London, who is already running the wider network as part of its contract with TfL.
“This new station will help to pave the way for up to 10,000 new homes in Barking Riverside, thousands of which will be genuinely affordable and will ensure residents have the high-quality transport links they need,” said Seb Dance, deputy mayor for transport.
“Despite the lack of long-term funding from government for TfL, the mayor is still absolutely focused on building a better London – and this development is a key part of that.”
The public body announced last month the opening was brought forward from the autumn, as works had been completed ahead of schedule.
“The opening of Barking Riverside station, months earlier than anticipated, is another boost for the capital, following the successful reopening of Bank station and launch of the transformational Elizabeth line,” added Stuart Harvey, TfL’s chief capital officer.
