Tokyo 2020 Olympics: 13-year-old Sky Brown becomes Britain’s youngest medallist with skateboard bronze as Hannah Mills makes sailing history

Teenage skateboarder Sky Brown became Britain’s youngest ever Olympic medallist today as Team GB claimed more sailing gold at Tokyo 2020.

Brown produced a calm final run to win the bronze medal after falling twice on her first two runs.

The 13-year-old surpassed Sarah Hardcastle, who won silver and bronze in the swimming at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympics aged 15, as Britain’s youngest summer Games medallist.

Elsewhere, sailors Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre won the women’s 470 event. The result makes Mills the most successful female sailor in Olympics history.

However, France launched a protest after the race meaning the result is yet to be officially ratified.

Brown could not afford any mistakes in the third and last round and duly delivered to climb from fourth to third place. Japan’s Sakura Yosozumi won gold and 12-year-old Kokona Hiraki took silver.

“I’m so stoked. I can’t believe it, it’s unbelievable. I’m so happy to be on the podium with these guys, it’s insane,” said Brown, who is 13 years and 28 days old.

“The medal feels unreal, it’s like a dream. I can’t wait to show the medal to my family and friends.

“I really hope I inspire some girls. I feel like people think I’m too young and I can’t do it but, if you believe in yourself, you can do anything. I believed in myself and I’m here.”

In boxing, Ben Whittaker won the men’s light-heavyweight silver medal and Frazer Clarke took bronze in the men’s super-heavyweight division.

Whittaker was disappointed with his silver, however, and appeared to show as much on the podium after the fight.

Elsewhere, Katarina Johnson-Thompson finds herself in the medal positions in the heptathlon, but will be looking to improve on her current third place.
