Entire Scottish whisky distillery ships to China
A Scottish whisky distillery, in its entirety, is being shipped out to China today.
More than 35 tonnes of equipment, including flooring, control valves and pipework, is leaving Buckie in Moray for the port of Tianjin, according to a BBC report.
It will be Inner Mongolia’s first whisky distillery when it opens towards the end of the year in Ordos after it has been assembled.
Forfar-based Valentine International will act as project managers for the distillery when it is up and running.
The shipment is part of a £3m “design and build” deal between Valentine International and China’s Mengtai Group which was signed in 2019.
Forsyths are reportedly sending a team of engineers to surpervise the assembly of the equipment, all of which was built by the Rothes-based firm.
Forsyths teams based in Hong Kong will provide after-sales back-up and services.
Valentine International chairman and managing director David Valentine told the BBC the project was the vision of Mengtai chairman Ao Fengting, who wants to create a “globally award-winning whisky”.
