Just Eat acquires Slovakian food delivery as global expansion continues
Just Eat Takeaway has announced it will acquire Bistro.sk, a food delivery company in Slovakia, as it expands its global footprint.
The deal, approximately valued at €50m, is expected to close later in the year.
The Slovakian business operates in a similar format to Just Eat. Its 400,000 customers choose food, from the 2,000 or so restaurants who have partnered with Bistro.sk, and order online via the site.
Joerg Gerbig, chief operating officer of Just Eat Takeaway, said: “With the acquisition of Bistro.sk we are adding a profitable and highly complementary online food delivery platform to our geographical footprint.”
“The business has strong foundations we can build on: a number one position in online food delivery1, market leading top-of- mind brand awareness and attractive consumer cohorts. We look forward to growing the business.”
Bistro.sk will adopt the Just Eat Takeaway global brand identity, the companies announced in a statement today.
The announcement comes in the wake of reports yesterday that Just Eat delivery order growth in the UK was up by 733 per cent on the same period last year
The online takeaway saw orders rise across the globe in the last quarter too as its other recent investments began to take off.
Half year orders in 2021 were up 61 per cent, while newly-acquired subsidiary Grubhub saw 51 per cent growth.
