Home Office to allow late EU Settlement Scheme applications after website crashes
The Home Office this afternoon reassured last-minute applicants for the EU Settlement Scheme that their forms are still valid after its website crash late last night.
EU citizens living in the UK had until midnight last night to apply for the post-Brexit settlement scheme.
The Home Office website saw a surge of last-minute applications which, it says, caused delays in application submissions being accepted by the system.
The EU Settlement Scheme is meant to confirm their immigration status in order to continue living and working in the UK now the Brexit transition period and freedom of movement rights have ended, however there have been reports of a backlog of cases and families left in limbo.
The process has been open for many months and costs EU citizens living in the UK nothing to apply, still there was enough last-minute demand to put pressure on the website.
In certain other cases the Home Office will accept late applications if certain critieria are met.
