France can plunder Commonwealth
THERE’S usually a good French horse that slips under the radar at Royal Ascot.
Our friends across the Channel have bagged at least one winner at the meeting in four of the past six years and SUESA is fancied to complete a successful raid in the Commonwealth Cup (3:40pm).
After a taking win first time up this season in the Prix Sigy, trainer Francois Rohaut suggested she could be kept fresh and go straight to Ascot.
There were no concerns about the step up to 6f, but just to be sure she ran again in the Prix Texanita over today’s distance.
The result was the same, a commanding three-length win, and she looks a very backable 4/1 favourite.
It’s obviously no penalty kick with the likes of Queen Mary winner Campanelle and Middle Park winner Supremacy in there, but she could be a special filly and 4/1 isn’t bad at all.
With the World Pool in operation via tote.co.uk this week, mixing in a couple of outsiders with Suesa in a Quinella could pay off.
A CASE OF YOU for Ado McGuiness and MEASURE OF MAGIC for Johnny Murtagh look like the two to chance at the prices.
McGuiness’ charge has won four of his six starts and relishes soft ground, while his only career defeats have come over 7f and 1m.
As for Measure Of Magic, he’s taken a good step forward from his encouraging juvenile season with back-to-back wins this term and is worth mixing into the exotics.
Marching onto the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes (5:35pm), by which time the ground could be really testing, and MIRAAN is the one to play each-way at 12/1.
The son of Motivator is a soft ground lover with some rock-solid form in the book.
He was as short as 5/4 to overcome eventual Group One winner Order Of Australia at the Curragh on his last start of 2020, but could only manage fourth, while his four runs this season have come over 1m or 1m2f.
The step up to 1m4f on testing ground should see him back to his best.
