Ferrari poaches chipmaker executive as its new CEO to fuel electric transition
Ferrari has poached a chipmaker tech executive for its new CEO, in hopes to push the pedal on its electric transition amid global chip shortages.
Tech veteran Benedetto Vigna joins the luxury car firm from TMicroelectronics, where he began his career 26 years ago.
The somewhat low-profile hire has highlighted the revolving doors between the tech and auto industry which has been increasing in recent years as the appetite for electrical transport bites.
At STMicroelectronics, Vigna shaped screen sensor technology in the iPhone four, which is still used in smartphones and vehicle navigation systems today.
Joining Ferrari in September, the incoming chief will replace Louis Camilleri, who unexpectedly resigned at the end of last year.
“I spent half of my life working with a formidable multicultural team to whom I am, and I will always be, grateful,” Vigna said in his departing statement.
“Without such a great team, it would have been impossible to grow the AMS business at the levels of today. I want to thank all the ST family for what they taught me, and for the time we devoted together to transform our dreams into real business.”
