However, his appointment at Goldman will wait until after he has completed a fellowship set up in memory of Jeremy Heywood, the former cabinet secretary.
The fellowship will see Robbins join the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford.
He is the first fellow to win the Heywood Fellowship which gives a permanent secretary time to explore “issues relating to public service and policy”.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has given Robbins a sabbatical to take up the role.
“I am delighted that Olly will be the first permanent secretary to take up this fellowship in Jeremy Heywood’s memory, which follows his many years of dedication to public service in a variety of different roles,” Johnson said.

After the fellowship Robbins will resign from the Civil Service and join Goldman Sachs. His appointment at the bank has been approved by the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments.
