City Moves for 6 September – Who’s switching jobs at Stonehage Fleming, the Financial Conduct Authority and Cipfa?
Today’s City Moves includes Stonehage Fleming, the Financial Conduct Authority and Cipfa.
Stonehage Fleming
Chris Merry has been appointed group chief executive of independently owned international wealth management company Stonehage Fleming. Formerly chief executive of Ipes, a European provider of fund administration and outsourcing services, Chris will be based in Stonehage Fleming’s London office. Chris will be taking over from Giuseppe Ciucci, Stonehage Fleming group chief executive since 1997. Giuseppe will remain in a full-time executive capacity as managing partner, concentrating first and foremost on serving existing clients as well as building new client relationships. He will also become deputy chairman of the board, where he will continue to contribute to the strategic direction of the firm. Chris has a proven track record as an experienced and effective chief executive. As well as his five-year tenure at Ipes, Chris has also served as chief of RSM Tenon, the UK accounting firm later acquired by Baker Tilly, and at Matrix Group, a privately held boutique financial services firm. He was the finance director for global law firm Clifford Chance prior to which he was a partner at Big Four accountancy firm PwC, with experience in London, New York and Shanghai.
The Financial Conduct Authority
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has appointed Kate Collyer as its chief economist. Kate is currently chief economist for energy and market frameworks and joint-director of analysis at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Kate will act as an adviser to the FCA’s executive committee and board. The City watchdog has also announced the appointment of Marlene Shiels, chief executive of capital credit union, as chair of the FCA’s smaller business practitioner panel – an independent statutory body that represents the interests of practitioners of firms of small or medium size within their sector across FCA-regulated activities. She succeeds Craig Errington, group chief executive of Wesleyan.
Cipfa
The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (Cipfa), has announced that Andrew Burns has joined in the part-time advisory role of associate director for local government. Having started his career as a finance trainee with Birmingham City Council, Andrew qualified as a Cipfa accountant in 1988. In his 35-year career across the West Midlands, he has held posts with responsibility for social care, public service agreements, property and customer services in addition to finance roles. Most recently, Andrew was director of finance and resources at Staffordshire County Council, where he led the authority’s transformation agenda.
