Lidl plans 500 new jobs in Scotland
Supermarket chain Lidl is planning to hire 500 new people in Scotland across 12 new stores, it announced this morning.
The low-cost grocer will add to its 98 stores across the country. It is already building new sites at Dundee, Cowdenbeath, Larkhall, Dumbarton and East Kilbride.

“Since opening our very first store in Scotland 25 years ago, we’ve opened our doors to towns and cities across the country, employing more than 2,200 people,” said Lidl’s Scotland boss Ross Millar.
The plans include 12 new stores, while Lidl will also regenerate eight of its current ones.
It comes as the firm’s new distribution centre near Motherwell is set to open in November. The 58,000 square metre site will be the biggest in Britain when it opens, the company said. It replaces Lidl’s existing warehouse in Livingston.
“We’re incredibly excited by our ambitious growth plans, and in particular the opening of our 100th store next year, which reinforces our commitment to creating new jobs and providing communities with quality produce at prices that are affordable for everyone,” Millar said.
