Hornby has reportedly resigned from his position as joint chief operating officer of gambling firm GVC Holdings.
Hornby was boss of Britain’s biggest mortgage lender Hbos at the time of its takeover by Lloyds TSB in January 2009.
The merged entity was then bailed out by taxpayers with a £20bn payment. Hornby left at this point.

After Hornby left Hbos, he joined Alliance Boots, the owner of Boots The Chemist, which was then owned by private equity house KKR.
After two years he resigned to lead bookmaker Coral, which merged with Ladbrokes in 2016, before being acquired by GVC in 2018.
The Restaurant Group and GVC declined to comment.
