Forget cups, top four spot is our goal, says Bassong
TOTTENHAM defender Sebastien Bassong admits he would be happy to be knocked out of the Carling Cup tonight as long as Spurs finish the season in the top four.
Harry Redknapp’s men travel to Old Trafford for a last-eight clash against Manchester United, who defeated them on penalties in last season’s final.
And Bassong says that although a repeat of that outcome would be disappointing, Tottenham, who sit third in the Premier League, are focusing their energies on clinching a first-ever Champions League spot.
“Both cup competitions are very important but the main things is the Premier League,” said the French centre-back. “The top four is our goal, so if we can get into the Champions League we’ll be very happy.”
Redknapp will again be without injured defenders Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King, although striker Robbie Keane and midfielder Jermaine Jenas, on the bench for the last two games, could be recalled with the manager promising to rotate his squad.
