Carvalho: We’re better than under Jose
RICARDO CARVALHO believes this current Chelsea side under Carlo Ancelotti is better than Jose Mourinho’s title-winning side of five years ago.
Mourinho guided the Blues to their first top-flight success in 50 years back in 2005, losing just one game and conceding just 15 goals along the way.
Ancelotti’s current side may have already lost twice this season but have been installed as favourites to reclaim the title, won for the last three years by Manchester United.
And Carvalho, who signed by Mourinho in 2004, claims this latest Blues crop are playing better than ever. “In this moment we are an improvement even from that first year here under Mourinho,” the Portuguese defender said. “Of course then we were compact and everyone was fighting, but now I think we have more quality in the squad maybe. Or at least different players, playing in a different system and style.”
Carvalho looked all set to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer after losing his place in the side under Guus Hiddink last season, but he is now back enjoying his football, with Portugal also having qualified for the World Cup. “We are playing well and not conceding goals, we are top, and also we have qualified for the World Cup, so everyone in my life is happy.”
