Young Guns get Greek outing
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger has promised to give his young stars a chance to make amends for recent setbacks in tomorrow’s clash with Olympiacos.
Wenger’s fringe players were well beaten 3-0 by a full-strength Manchester City in last week’s Carling Cup quarter-final.
But the Frenchman is ready to unleash them on European competition, having already secured first place in Group H.
And that is likely to mean starts for midfielders Jack Wilshere, 17, Fran Merida, 19, Aaron Ramsey, 19, and forward Carlos Vela, 20, in Greece.
“I’m extremely proud of them and I will give some of them an opportunity on Wednesday, for many reasons,” Wenger said.
“At the moment we have so many players injured that we cannot take any gambles; also you must give players a breather when you can.
“You will see Fran, Wilshere etc. We played Manchester City last week and they had a full side out.
“For an hour we did not suffer at all. I will try to build a similar team in Greece.
“It will be a great game for them because Olympiacos will play for something, and it is another good opportunity to show that we can do better than we did at Man City.”
