Redknapp ponders van Nistelrooy bid
TOTTENHAM boss Harry Redknapp admits he is interested in signing striker Ruud van Nistelrooy on loan.
The former Manchester United hitman, 33, has been linked with a return to the Premier League after falling out of favour at Real Madrid.
But while Redknapp heads the queue for the free-scoring Dutchman, the deal would only hinge on Russian Roman Pavlyuchenko making way.
“It’s interesting but it depends what the deal is,” said Redknapp ahead of tonight’s Premier League clash with Liverpool. “The chairman would deal with that side but he’s an interesting player. He was fantastic in England and a great goalscorer.
“If he was available it could be of interest. It’s not impossible. If it was right we could be interested.”
He added: “Pav is looking to move. He was tremendous in training this morning. Only if someone came in and it was a good offer though, otherwise it would not be possible.
Redknapp’s Liverpool counterpart, Rafael Benitez, however, has laughed off rumours of a bust-up with captain Steven Gerrard during the FA Cup defeat by Reading.
“We have been joking about the rumours in the media that there was a fight,” said the Spainard. “There was nothing. We have been laughing about it.”
Gerrard missed the visit of Spurs with a hamstring injury, joining Fernando Torres, Yossi Benayoun and Glen Johnson on the sidelines.
“It’s a good time to play them,” Redknapp admitted.
