Bank DLR to re-open
A VITAL transport artery into the heart of the City will re-open at the start of next month after an overhaul to allow longer trains to run, Transport for London (TfL) said yesterday.
The Docklands Light Railway station at Bank, which has been closed since Christmas Eve for expansion and modernisation works, will re-open on Monday 1 February, TfL said.
The project will allow three-car trains to run between Bank, Canary Wharf and Lewisham and will lead to a 50 per cent increase in space for passengers.
The DLR will introduce three-car trains on the route gradually and has also used the Bank closure to improve the platforms, lighting and signage at the station.
TfL plans to close the network between Bank and Tower Gateway stations and Westferry station from Friday 29 January to Sunday 31 January to allow extra signal testing to be carried out. Bus replacement services will run during the period.
