Easyjet adds 70 new European routes in a bid for 10 per cent growth in 2010
EASYJET yesterday announced it will launch over 70 new European services in the next six months, starting with the introduction yesterday of flights from Gatwick to Hamburg and Dusseldorf.
The budget said new flights will include routes from London Stansted to Cagliari and Manchester to Helsinki.
It will also significantly increase its presence at Doncaster Sheffield airport in April with the introduction of routes to Barcelona, Amsterdam, Faro, Palma and Prague.
Chief executive Andy Harrison said: “EasyJet continues to attract new customers because we offer the lowest fares to the most convenient airports.
“Despite the challenging economic conditions, we will grow 10 per cent and will carry 50m passengers this year on over 500 routes. The 70 new routes we will launch in the coming months will reinforce our position as Europe’s number one air transport network.”
The airline will offer a choice of over 500 routes to 28 countries in Europe, north Africa and the Middle East this year.
Last month the low-cost airline reported total revenues up 10.5per cent to £607.5m in its first quarter and passenger numbers up 9.1per cent. A record 54 per cent of passengers started journeys outside the UK after it added hubs in Madrid, Paris and Milan.
