On-fire Rooney’s close to being best in the world, says Giggs
RYAN GIGGS claims Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney is close to being one of the best players in the world at the moment.
The England striker took his goal tally to 21 for the season with a sensational second goal in United’s 3-1 crushing of title rivals Arsenal at the weekend.
And veteran Giggs believes the 24-year-old is closing in on the likes of Lionel Messi and his former Old Trafford team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo to earn the tag as the best footballer on the planet.
“He is getting nearer that group,” said Giggs, who won the PFA Player of the Year last season. “You have seen it for England and for us on the bigger stages. That is what all the top players do.
“The best thing is that Wayne is still developing. He is 24 now but he is only going to get better. His appetite is strong and he is a great player to have in your team.”
