Toyota recall hits UK
TOYOTA will recall over 180,000 vehicles in the UK as part of the ongoing faulty accelerator saga.
The embattled car maker says it is working with the DVLA to identify owners of vehicles with faulty accelerator pedals. The vast clean-up operation is over a £9 part that takes just 30 minutes to repair. At least 15 lawsuits seeking class action status have been filed against Toyota on the acceleration issue, with seven of them claiming an electronic throttle system was at fault instead of the pedal.
Meanwhile, Toyota said yesterday its North American and Japanese dealers had received several dozen complaints concerning insufficient braking on its new Prius hybrid car when driving over bumpy or frozen roads. US transportation secretary Ray LaHood told owners of the recalled models to “stop driving”, but later clarified his comments, saying he intended to urge Toyota owners to take their vehicles to dealers to have them examined.
