PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS
Christine Cross, a former Tesco director, has joined the accountancy firm as chief retail adviser.
Cross currently holds non-executive directorships at High Street retailer Next and Empire, the second largest Canadian grocery chain. She was at Tesco between 1989 and 2003, latterly as business development director.
She is also currently a retail adviser to Apax Private Equity and Warburg Pincus.
SVG Capital
The private equity investment firm has appointed Andrew Sykes, the deputy chairman of accountancy firm Smith & Williamson, as a non-executive director.
In addition to his role at Smith & Williamson, Sykes is chairman of Invista Foundation Property Trust, Absolute Return Trust and SVG Advisers.
He is also a non-executive director of currency investment management firm Record Plc, Gulf International Bank UK and MBIA UK Insurance.
Tullett Prebon
The inter-dealer broker has appointed Kim Sullivan as a senior associate to its alternative investments desk.
Sullivan joins from European Capital Financial Services, where she was a senior financial analyst.
In her new role, she will be responsible for originating transactions for Tullett in western Europe and developing the team’s network.
Berwin Leighton Paisner
The law firm has hired Andrew Hockley as a partner in its EU and competition group, comprising 16 lawyers in London and Brussels.
Hockley has been EC competition counsel at oil firm BP since 2007 and is an expert in competition matters, particularly mergers and cartels. Prior to that, he was a member of the antitrust group at Allen & Overy, where he worked on a range of major cases including Sun Microsystems’ landmark complaint against Microsoft.
Pictet & Cie
The Geneva-based private bank has announced that senior managing partner Ivan Pictet will step down at the end of June, after 38 years with the firm.
Pictet, 66, joined the partnership in 1982. He will be succeeded by his current deputy Jacques de Saussure, 57, who joined Pictet in 1980.
The firm also said Marc Pictet, its managing director for Europe, and Bertrand Demole, its head of hedge fund investments, will join the partnership at the beginning of next year.
Vertex
Paul Abel is to join the customer management outsourcing business as global head of business development and strategy.
Abel was formerly a partner in the utilities and energy practice at Accenture, and prior to that spent 12 years with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young in various senior executive roles.
