Binocular out of Cheltenham
HORSE RACING: Binocular has been ruled out of the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham with a muscle problem.
Nicky Henderson’s pre-race favourite, who finished third behind Punjabi last term, was diagnosed with the problem after being sent for scans following disappointing runs at Newcastle and Kempton. Trainer Henderson said: “We feel we don’t have sufficient time to treat this in order for him to do himself justice in the Champions Hurdle.”
Wildcat Newton fails drug test
RUGBY LEAGUE: Wakefield hooker Terry Newton has been provisionally suspended by the UK Anti-Doping Agency after testing positive for a banned substance.
The 31-year-old former Leeds, Wigan and Bradford player provided a positive test on 24 November but no details of the substance have been revealed.
Super League leaders Wakefield have declined to comment further.
Woods to break silence tomorrow
GOLF: Tiger Woods is to break his silence and make a statement about his future tomorrow.
The world No1 is taking an indefinite break from golf in order to save his marriage, having admitted “infidelity” in his marriage to wife Elin.
A statement issued last night read: “Tiger Woods will be speaking to a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates where he plans to discuss his past and his future and to apologise.”
