Butlin’s admits personal data of 34,000 customers may have been breached | City A.M.
Leisure firm Butlin’s today admitted that thousands of guest records may have been accessed by an unauthorised third party in a serious data breach.
The company told guests that payment details had not been compromised.
However, the booking reference numbers, lead guest names, holiday arrival dates, postal and email addresses and telephone numbers in 34,000 guest records may have been breached, Butlin’s warned.

The incident has been reported to data watchdog the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Butlin’s managing director Dermot King said:
Butlin’s take the security of our guest data very seriously and have improved a number of our security processes. I would like to apologise for any upset or inconvenience this incident might cause. A dedicated team has been set up to contact all guests who may be affected directly. I would like to personally reassure guests that no financial data has been compromised.
Analysis released last month by IBM warned that data breaches could cost companies up to £263m, up six per cent in the last year.
Telecoms firm Dixons Carphone recently announced its own major data breach, as it told customers there had been “unauthorised access” to the data of 10m customers.
