Premier League Golden Boot: Harry Kane boosted in pursuit of Mohamed Salah after Tottenham striker is credited with goal against Stoke
Tottenham striker Harry Kane’s hopes of finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer for a third year in a row have received a boost after he was credited with an extra goal.
Kane has been awarded Spurs’ second goal from their 2-1 win at Stoke on Saturday after persuading league chiefs that he got a faint touch on a free-kick from Christian Eriksen, who was originally recorded as the scorer.
The decision, made by the competition’s goals accreditation appeals panel, takes the England forward’s tally to 25 goals, four behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Only two players in the Premier League’s 26-year history have won the Golden Boot three seasons running: former England captain Alan Shearer, from 1994 to 1997, and Arsenal record scorer Thierry Henry, from 2003 to 2006.
Kane has six league fixtures left in which to catch Salah, starting on Saturday night against champions elect Manchester City, although Tottenham do not play any other teams from the top seven during the run-in.
The 24-year-old bagged an extraordinary late flurry of goals to retain the top-scorer crown last term, netting eight times in his last three games, including back-to-back hat-tricks at Leicester and Hull.

Liverpool have one match fewer remaining in which Salah, 25, could add to his 29-goal haul, including meetings with the bottom two teams in the division, West Brom and Stoke.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, who may be tempted to rotate his team for domestic duty with an ongoing Champions League campaign in mind, takes his side to Bournemouth on Saturday evening.

Salah has scored 39 goals for Liverpool in all competitions this season, to Kane’s 35 for Spurs – a run all the more remarkable for it being the Egypt international’s first campaign at Anfield.
This year is by far the most prolific of his career for the former Chelsea player, who struck 19 times for Roma last term before his £34m summer transfer to Merseyside.
