Great Ormond Street Hospital reverses decision to give back Presidents Club money
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) will retain the money it was given by the scandal-hit Presidents Club.
Trustees of the board officially ratified a decision today to keep £530,000 which it had originally pledged to return, Sky News reported.
The children’s hospital was one of the recipients of cash raised by the club, which was hit by allegations of sexual misconduct in a Financial Times investigation in January.
In the wake of the report, GOSH and several other charities said that money donated by the club would be given back. But this was later challenged by GOSH donors.
Following discussions with the Charity Commission, the hospital confirmed last month that it would reconsider the decision.
The money was raised at various events between 2009 and 2016, though the hospital was not one of the charities which received money from this year’s dinner, which was the subject of the exposé.
Meanwhile, Helena Morrissey is leading the charge on anti-Presidents Club events, backed by a raft of City firms.
