Former Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn posts bail again after rearrest in Japan

The former chairman of Nissan was hit with a fourth charge by Japanese prosecutors earlier this week, who accused him of aggravated breach of trust. Bail will enable him to prepare better for his criminal trial expected later this year, where he will fight all three accusations of financial wrongdoing while in charge of Japan’s second biggest car maker.
Ghosn will be free to leave the detention centre where he has been held since his 4 April rearrest, but his movements will be subject to strict monitoring. He will be unable to leave Japan, and unable to tamper with evidence, according to the court.
He will also be unable to meet or communicate with his wife Carole without specific permission from authorities, his defense lawyer said, after she was also questioned earlier this month.
Prosecutors have appealed the bail decision, but it is expected this will be rejected.
Earlier this month Ghosn claimed in a video address he was the victim of “a plot, conspiracy and back-stabbing" within Nissan. Ghosn’s lawyer, Junichiro Hironaka, said he had edited out any references to individuals his client holds accountable for the financial misconduct charges against him.

Ghosn’s charges include under-reporting his salary for 10 years and transferring personal losses onto Nissan’s books.
