Uber talks with Transport for London over licence called “constructive “
London’s transport regulator has hailed talks with Uber over its licence to operate in the capital as “constructive”.
Transport for London’s top boss Mike Brown today met with the top boss of the ride-hailing startup Dara Khosrowshahi who flew in from San Francisco for crunch talks.
Further meetings are expected to take place, though are unlikely to involve the chief executive, aimed at repairing the frosty relationship between the two sides.

TfL said in a statement:
“Today’s constructive meeting centred on what needs to happen to ensure a thriving taxi and private hire market in London where everyone operates to the same high standards. Further steps in this process will take place over the coming weeks.”
And Uber said:
“Our new chief executive had a constructive meeting with the transport commissioner this afternoon. We hope to have further discussions over the coming weeks as we are determined to make things right in London.”

Khosrowshahi also tweeted, saying he is “determined to make things right in this great city” and adding that he also met with drivers while visiting the city.

The clock is ticking on coming to any agreement on the company’s future in the capital, however. Uber has until 13 October, less than a fortnight away, when it must file an legal appeal against TfL’s decision not to renew the licence, or cease operations.
Uber can continue to operate in London while the appeal makes its way through the courts.
