Las Vegas shooting: More than 50 people killed and 200 injured by Stephen Paddock in Las Vegas Mandalay Bay gun attack
Las Vegas police have confirmed 58 people were killed after a gunman opened fire at a country music festival on Sunday night.
Police said 515 were also wounded before the culprit was killed. The police said they believe the shooter killed himself.
The suspect was Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old local Las Vegas man who acted alone, according to sheriff Joseph Lombardo of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Las Vegas police said that the shooter was apprehended on the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay, where he died.
The police were also hunting a female accomplice, but said this afternoon: “We are confident we have located the female person of interest.”
US President Donald Trump offered his “warmest condolences” to the victims of the attack, via Twitter.
My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting. God bless you!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 2, 2017
Witnesses on social media said the shooting broke out on the last night of the three-day Route 91 Harvest festival, a sold-out event attended by thousands and featuring top acts such as Eric Church, Sam Hunt and Jason Aldean.
US media reported that country music star Jason Aldean was performing at around 10:45pm local time on Sunday when the rampage began but that he had safely been removed from the stage at the event outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. CNN reported all the artists were safe.
