Apple Pay and UK fintech charity Pennies now let you make donations within apps
An innovative company behind a “digital charity box” has gained support from Apple for a new way to make donations as the world heads towards becoming cashless.
Pennies, a fintech that already rounds up payments made online and gives the extra cash to charity, is now compatable with Apple Pay. It means people shopping via an app can do the same when they get to the online checkout within apps on iPhones and iPads.

More than 40m so-called micro-donations have been made by shoppers at Domino’s, Boots Opticians, Virgin Holidays and more, raising a combined £10m over the past seven years with Pennies.
“We’re thrilled to be able to expand the micro-donation movement across the UK via retailers’ apps and Apple Pay, and to support many more causes and communities as a result,” said chief executive of Pennies Alison Hutchinson adding that it would “change the pace of giving” in the UK.
