Barclays chief executive Jes Staley quizzed by regulators investigating him over attempts to ID whistleblower
Barclays chief executive Jes Staley has been formally questioned by regulators over his attempts to unmask a whistleblower.
The bank announced in April that the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) were probing Staley after he tried to identify the author of a letter raising concerns about a senior employee in 2016.
And the boss has been interviewed by officials from the regulator bodies in recent weeks as they intensify their investigation, Sky News first reported.
At Barclays’ annual general meeting (AGM) in May, Staley apologised for his actions to shareholders.
“I made a mistake in becoming involved in an issue which I should have left with the business to deal with,” he said.
“I have apologised to the board, and I would today like to apologise to you as well for that error.”
Barclays declined to comment.
