Wonga data breach: Personal details of 245,000 UK customers and 25,000 Polish customers may have been stolen in cyber attack
Personal details of 245,000 UK customers of payday lender Wonga may have been stolen in a data breach discovered last week.
City A.M. understands that information including name, email address, home address, phone number, bank account number and sort code may have been stolen. The data breach also affected 25,000 users in Poland.
A Wonga spokesperson said: “Wonga is urgently investigating illegal and unauthorised access to the personal data of some of its customers in the UK and Poland. We are working closely with authorities and we are in the process of informing affected customers. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
The controversial payday loan firm is contacting customers to inform them about the breach and offer help.

Wonga, which offers loans with 1,509 per cent APR, has taken a beating in the last two years by company restructuring costs, fee caps, and harsher lending criteria.
In December 2015, Wonga reported a pre-tax loss of £80.2m for 2015, 53 per cent higher than the year before.
The lender appointed former Wordplay exec Joanna Baker as its new chief financial officer in January.
