Goldman Sachs launches UK consumer bank
Goldman Sachs has soft launched its retail bank in the UK ahead of a full roll out in the next few weeks.
Staff were offered access to the Marcus consumer bank and invited to give feedback before it becomes available to the general public.
The 149-year-old bank will offer an online savings account to UK customers, employees were told in a memo.
"The launch of Marcus by Goldman Sachs in the UK represents an important milestone in the growth of Goldman Sachs' consumer business, as well as continued diversification of the firms funding," the internal memo to staff said today.
"Getting to this point is the culmination of months of cross-functional collaboration, and we are excited about what this launch means for the region."
The consumer arm was launched in the US two years ago and has gathered more than $20bn (£15.5bn) in deposits.
It is named after the investment bank's co-founder Marcus Goldman.
