Mike Ashley is looking to make himself the chairman of Findel
Sports Direct boss Mike Ashley is looking to become chairman of gift retailer Findel, a company Sports Direct owns a 30 per cent stake in.
Sky News reported Ashley is talking to the board of Findel about the move over the past few weeks.
Ashley, who recently admitted to MPs that he couldn't control Sports Direct because it had become too big, is thought to want to use Findel's Express Gifts subsidiary as an outlet for Sports Direct's brands.
Other major shareholders are thought likely to back Ashley's bid to install himself at the head of Findel, raising the prospect that the company would be powerless to stop him.
Sports Direct and Findel have been approached for comment.
