Latest figures show a gulf in donations between the EU referendum’s Leave and Remain camps
Donations for Leave campaigners have again exceeded those for their peers in the Remain campaign in the latest figures from the Electoral Commission.
Earlier this month, the election watchdog reported that almost £16m in donations to both camps had been recorded for the period between 1 February and 21 April, with the Leave camp raising just 10 per cent more than their rivals.
However, the latest set of figures show a dramatic gulf between the two causes, with Leave campaigners raising more than double that of the Remain camp.
For the period 22 April to 12 May, pro-EU groups raised £1.6m while the eurosceptics raised a total of £3.8m.
Donations were largest for the designated lead campaign groups, with Britain Stronger In Europe raising £1m alone, while Vote Leave received £3.4m in donations.
The figures mean that since February, £9m has been donated to the Remain campaigners, compared to £12m for Brexiteers.
The next set of figures will be published by the Commission on 21 June, just two days before the referendum itself, with a final donation report expected on 6 July.
