New survey finds more teenagers in London want to work in banking and financial services
Teenagers are increasingly likely to want to work in financial services, according to a new poll from Skills London, a career expo for students.
The survey found that banking was the fourth most-popular career choice among 16-year-olds, trailing only medicine, teaching and law.
In the same poll last year, banking failed to make the top 10 list.
The survey also found, however, that students think they are less likely to collect high wages in their careers. Whereas 48 per cent of 16-year-olds surveyed last year said that they expected to earn £40,000 a year after five years in employment, just 34 per cent said the same this year.
Just over half of students polled this year said they were “very confident” or “confident” they would find a job after finishing schooling, but around 25 per cent said they were “unconfident” or “very unconfident”, respectively.
