Burgess bows out with title
BATH-bound British rugby league star Sam Burgess played through the pain of a broken cheekbone as he led South Sydney Rabbitohs to victory in the NRL Grand Final yesterday.
Burgess – set to switch codes this month – was man of the match despite the injury as the Rabbitohs beat Canterbury Bulldogs 30-6 to end a 43-year wait for the title.
“It feels like I cracked my eye socket in the first attack but I played on adrenaline after that and my team-mates talked me through it,” he said. “I’m sure it’ll hurt tomorrow but I would do it all over again.”
