Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal installs video cameras to watch players during training
New Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has wasted little time imposing himself on his new club.
Famed for being somewhat dictatorial in his approach to management, the Dutchman has now turned training into something like a scene from Orwell's 1984.
According to ESPN, £500,000 worth of video recording equipment has been set up around the club's Carrington training ground allowing Van Gaal to scrutinise the minute positioning differences which may make or break a game.
This approach is a new one to the players, and ESPN quotes defender Jonny Evans as saying:
That kind of scrutiny is new to every single player. The case before was that as long as we got the results everything was fine. David Moyes would have looked at videos a lot so we got a bit of that from last year. [Now] we are looking at things in detail.
The team has also been using video recording equipment on their pre-season tour to the US, where they remain undefeated. Last night's victims were the new-look 'galacticos' of Real Madrid, who were dispatched 3-1 despite a late cameo from Cristiano Ronaldo.
Last season under David Moyes United won only two of their pre-season games.
