Bloodhound SSC race car stops by Willis: 1,000mph supersonic dream machine is City’s star attraction
Something shiny caught The Capitalist’s eye near the iconic Lloyd’s building yesterday.
Redefining the notion of a flashy car, most passing insurance workers on their lunch breaks could only look on adoringly and weep at the £20m price-tag.
Designed to set a new land-speed record of 800 miles per hour on the vast, smooth plains of the South African Kalahari Desert later this year, the Bristol built, next-generation, supersonic 1,000mph capability Bloodhound SSC race car made a thunderbird style pit-stop thanks to insurance brokers Willis.
As a managing partner for the project, Willis was tasked with tailoring an insurance programme for the high risk multi-million pound jet and rocket-powered, carbon-fibre car, which generates 135,000 horsepower, the equivalent of “six times the power of a starting grid of F1 cars”. Wowzers.
